By Flt Lt J Docherty - Former OC 1384 Squadron

Askern Air Cadets are a model of success after achieving a 4th place in the South and West Yorkshire Wing aeromodelling Competition.  The competition sees the 33 Squadrons in the Wing compete to see who can produce the best model aircraft.

The competition is broken down into 3 age groups, resulting in a maximum of 99 models to judge.  Askern were placed 4th in the 15-16 age group, an improvement on their 5th place last year, with a 1950’s Spitfire produced by Cdt Cpl A Pearce.

Sergeant (ATC) George Paterson said “It was really good for us to do so well in the competition” he continued “To improve on last years position was a real bonus”.

Aero modelling is just a few of the many opportunities Askern Squadron offers to its members, both cadets and staff. Air Cadets is a youth organisation open to anyone aged 13-17. It is also open to those over 20 who wish to join as a staff and assist in the running of such events If you are interested in finding out more about Air Cadets in Askern visit us as www.askernaircadets.co.uk
