2344 (Longbenton) Squadron has received a High Sheriff of Tyne and Wear Award in recognition of the valuable services it provides to the community for the fourth consecutive year.

Collecting the award on behalf of the Squadron were Alex Sample, 17 and Leo Allan, 14. The High Sheriff, Mr John Mowbray OBE, presented the award, along with record-breaking British mountaineer Alan Hinkes OBE, at a special ceremony held at Newcastle’s Centre for Life.

Leo said, “It was a good evening and it was great to have our achievements recognised again. We do lots of fun activities which are challenging sometimes so it’s great to have people like the High Sheriff and Alan say “well done” to us. We thank the High Sheriff for his Award.”

“There are lots of groups in the region who work make a difference so to be sitting alongside those groups to celebrate what we all do was a pleasure,” added Alex.

Mr Mowbray said, “The Longbenton Cadets have enjoyed a remarkable few years. They have remained at the top and it is very fitting that their latest achievements have been recognised.”

Last December, the High Sheriff presented the Durham Trophy to the Longbenton Youngsters, in recognition of their achievement as the top performing training squadron for a record breaking fifth year running.
