On Saturday 13th August as part of the ATC 75th Anniversary celebrations 19 staff and cadets travelled to RAFC Cranwell for the Extravaganza. The event was blessed with good weather as we sat on the Orange in front of College Hall Officers Mess, a rare opportunity for all. Throughout the day we we able to watch a fantastic formal parade and continuity drill routine by cadets across the country. One of the many highlights of the day was the ACO National Marching Band which contained 2 of our cadets, Sgt Copeland and CWO Williams. The band was more than impressive and sounded on top form. We also heard the ACO National Concert Band play some great sing a long tunes which had FS Annetts from our Squadron in. We were very proud to be able to support our cadets who were working hard to entertain the crowds.
Other major highlights were the flypast of the Spitfire and Hurricane from the BBMF and a once in a lifetime display from the Red Arrows over College Hall Mess. If you didn’t think this was a great enough day just there, the RAF Falcons parachute display team landed just behind where we were sat. The cadets searched the crowds for high ranking dignitaries such as the Commandant Air Commodore McCafferty, Chief of Air Staff Sir Stephen Hillier, Honourary Group Captain Carol Vorderman, Squadron Leader Mike Like (Red 10) to name a few. Our cadets had their programmes signed by all they could find and speak to. We took great inspiration from the ability of our cadets to meet some high ranking Officers and guests, an incredibly rare opportunity for them.
The amount of work taken by all to arrange and organise this event should be commended as the day was really great. Our thanks go to those involved.
