On the 3rd of June I was lucky enough to be chosen to have a flight in a Hawk T2 whilst on camp at RAF Valley. I was chosen as one of two best cadets on camp to have a 45 minute flight in the fast jet trainer.
The day started off with a medical and G force training before reporting to 4 Sqn for being kitted out with the gear necessary to undergo the strains of G force. The flight started with straight and level flight over snowdonia to RAF Shawbury. The weather was completely clear so the view over the mountains and along the coastline was absolutely beautiful. We then completed an approach at RAF Shawbury before gaining altitude to perform some aerobatics, which I was allowed to take control of the aircraft for myself, such as aileron rolls. We then did several approaches at RAF Valley, such as a flapless landing, before landing and returning to 4 Sqn.
This was the best flight I have ever had in my entire cadet career, and I’m so glad that I have had the opportunity to have this flight. I would like to say thank you to all of 4 Sqn for facilitating me all day and for giving me the chance to fly in such an amazing aircraft!
