On Saturday 25th June staff & cadets from 2490 (Spen Valley) squadron and 250 (Halifax) squadron attended an Armed Forces Day service in Cleckheaton Memorial Park. Thankfully the weather held out for us and the sun shone brightly over us.
The event was organised by the Royal British Legion to commemorate all those that have served in our Armed Forces past and present. The cadets formed a guard of honour for the veterans and distinguished guests to march past up to the memorial.
The Mayor or Kirklees and Deputy Lieutenant of West Yorkshire attended the event and both commented how nice it was to have Air Cadets present and to see young people being involved with such an important cause. Cadet Corporal Barber (2490 (Spen Valley) Squadron) said “I enjoyed the chance to speak with veterans about their history and meet the Deputy Lieutenant of West Yorkshire”.
Four cadets were also chosen to be the wreath party giving them the honour to march with the veterans and help lay a wreath as part of the service. These were Cadet Sergeant Delaney & Cadet Hawskley from 250 (Halifax) squadron and Cadet Corporal Kirk & Cadet Howard from 2490 (Spen Valley) Squadron.
