On Sunday 24th April cadets and staff from 2490 Spen Valley squadron attended the annual St Georges Day event in Morley; consisting of a parade, WW2 re-enactment and stalls.
We met outside Morley Town Hall on a cold morning for the 11:30am parade and marched up to the rugby club. The cadets all looked very smart and have said they enjoyed the experience of marching in public wearing their uniforms, which they had put lots of effort into the night before.
We paraded along with Army Cadets and Scouts in front of a number of dignitaries. Each youth organisation recited their oath, ours was read by Flight Lieutenant Neil Foster RAFVR(T). After the parade the Deputy Lord Lieutenant of West Yorkshire came to meet the cadets.
Once the formal part was over with the cadets helped raise money on our stall for squadron funds to buy archery equipment and had fun walking round the different stalls/activities. Pilot Officer Jordan Swaine RAFVR(T) said “The cadets looked smart, put in a lot of effort and represented the squadron in a positive light. It was an enjoyable day, well done”.
