To celebrate the 90th Birthday of Her Majesty the Queen, 868 Squadron Air Cadets held their own “Garden” Party at their headquarters in Mirfield.
The building was decked out with bunting, paper chains and pictures of the Royal Family for the occasion and the Squadron members enjoyed a buffet meal, complete with a celebration cake which was cut by the Squadron Commander, Flight Lieutenant Peter Doubell. The whole Squadron joined in singing “Happy Birthday your Majesty” as well as the National Anthem.
As well as food the festivities included a “Right Royal Quiz” and a raffle, which raised £40 to be donated to one of the Queen’s favoured charities: Barnardo’s. Everybody present sign a card and this together with pictures of the event will be sent her at Buckingham Palace.
“everybody enjoyed the opportunity for a social evening to mark the Queen’s birthday, have fun and raise some money for one of her charities; we picked Barnardo’s to fit in with our own membership ages. The Queen is a great example to us all, and it is an honour to be able to join in this collective celebration.”
The local Air Cadet Squadron meets at the Air Cadet Centre in Mirfield on Huddersfield Road near the Stocks Bank Road junction, on Tuesday and Friday evenings. For more information please visit or contact Flt Lt Peter Doubell on 01924 498 896.
