On Saturday 2nd April 2016, 2 cadets from 2431 (Keighley) Squadron ATC went on a weeklong camp at RAF Valley, Anglesey, North Wales.
Cpl Seward and I got to Weatherby at 10:30 ready for our week at RAF Valley in Anglesey, Wales. After a 4:30 journeys we got there and did some ice breaker activity in the gym. We then got settled into our own rooms. Where we had great facilities.
RAF Valley is home to Number 4 Flight Training School operating the Hawk T1 and T2 aircraft for advanced fast jet training purposes.
The next day after our first sleep we were excited for our first full day at the base. On Sunday, we were in greens for heart start and dry weapons training. That night we then had free time to square our luggage away.
The next day, we did more weapons training and sport going head to head in our flights.
On Tuesday, we went orienteering and had an hour with the padre who told us about life and how it treats you. It was really interesting and enjoyable.
Wednesday we went to high ropes and visited the fire section, which was really exciting as the staff got to put out fires and use the equipment.
Thursday was a full day on the range. When everyone had done their WHT weapons handling test, they got us all shooting on the range on the station. All cadets shot the no.8 and some of us including Cpl Seward and myself shot the L98 rifle. We then had a night bowling.
On Friday our last full day we visited mountain rescue, search and rescue and we had our camp photo, we then did our drill competition.
Then finally on the Saturday we set off home at 22:30 just after we did the formal presentations.
Overall it was a great camp and I would definitely go on it again and recommend it to anyone who is considering it. The RAF Valley Easter Camp is one of the best I have been on throughout my 3 yearlong cadet career.
