On the 13th and 14th of February myself and two other Cadets from 148 (Barnsley) Squadron were joined by two Cadets from 23 (South Elmsall) squadron to undertake our Red Badge first aid course.
The course was based over two days and covered a wide range of first aid skills and techniques. We were taught how to put people in the recovery position, how to deal with cuts, bleeds, heart attacks and much more.
We were also lucky to have some of our Cadets who have previously passed a Red or Green badge course to help CI Parkes and CI Smedley who were running the course to act as causalities and they provided very useful tips that were always on my mind.
The assessment was on the second day which was assessed by Sqn Ldr Williams and CI Colton. By the time the assessments started we were all ready and looking forward to getting started. Once we had all completed the assessments we then each had a review with the staff and they gave us great feedback and also told us that we had all passed.
In the end the whole course was fun and taught us very valuable life skills. I genuinely believe I could now help someone using the skills that I learned. Just yesterday I helped someone with something in their eye at school.
