On Sunday 17th of January 2016, 12 cadets from 2431 (Keighley) Squadron ATC too part in Wing Cross Country at RAF Linton-on-Ouse, York.
Originally, I was only going to take part in the race not expecting to do as well as I did that day. Unfortunately, prior to this event I had to take some time of cadets due to medical reasons therefore this was my first event that I had attended since coming back in to cadets full time.
The morning of the race I was extremely nervous even though it was my second time of doing the race. After watching all the other races and seeing how muddy the ground was, it was finally my time to run. The whistle blew and suddenly I was determined to do well. For the first lap I stayed behind so I could get used to the course and so I could reserve my energy for the second lap. It was only towards the end of the first lap I decided to overlap everyone and take first place. Through the whole of the second lap I remained in first place whist still reserving my energy for the last sprint. The finish line was finally in sight when I sprinted as fast as I could to claim my well-deserved first place.
Overall as a squadron we did extremely well improving each time we attend the cross country. The girls came second overall, the boys came eighth overall and as a squadron we came fifth out of twenty five.
