We are thrilled to share the news that our very own Wg Cdr R B Rogers RAFVR(T) Rtd has been awarded a very rare CAS Commendation in The New Yearís Honours List 2016.
CI Rogers joined 148 (Barnsley) Sqn in 1949 as a cadet and progressed through the ranks finally becoming its Commanding Officer, a post he held for 19 years. He was then appointed to Wing Staff as Deputy OC Wing resulting in promotion to Wing Commander commanding the South Yorkshire Wing, a position he held for 9 years.
On retiring from uniformed service, he went back to 148 Sqn to instruct on syllabus subjects mainly propulsion and airframes plus aero modeling and aircraft recognition. This is a very impressive 64 years of service. In addition, he runs both Wing and Regional Recognition Competitions. CI Rogers is vital part of the 148 (Barnsley) Squadron family, his knowledge and experience is second to none.
High lights of his career include being chosen to represent the Corps at the Queens Jubilee Review of the Royal Air Force and taking 20 cadets for a 3 weeks tour of Canada. In his early years in the Corps, he was a keen mountaineer climbing many major peaks in the Alps which stood him good stead to act as a DofE Gold Assessor, a role he carried out for 20 years
CI Rogers is known throughout the Wing, many of the current staff in the Wing were Cadets when CI Rogers was Wing Commander South Yorkshire. He is a true legend within the Corps and we couldnít be prouder!
Many congratulations from all the Staff and Cadets at 148 (Barnsley) Squadron.
