Durham cadets are celebrating after coming top of 24 squadrons in the area to win this year's Adventure Training Challenge at RAF Spadeadam. The challenge consisted of events testing the cadet's skills in a variety of adventurous pursuits including trekking, first aid and orienteering.
The team, consisting of Flight Sergeant Kirton, Sergeant Wilkinson, Sergeant Hopper, Cadet Fenwick and Cadet Taylor, had trained for months in preparation for the event brushing up on their first aid and map reading skills in order to go one better than previous years and take the top prize. This all paid off in the end as the contest came down to the wire with our cadets winning by just two points!
Overall the cadets came top in 3 out of the 5 events putting in their best performance in Trekking where they beat second place by 15 points. The cadets also scored the maximum available 25 points in orienteering; a testament to the excellent performance of the team.
Commanding Officer Flt Lieutenant Green said, “We are all immensely proud of what the cadets achieved and the hard work that went into this success. We aim to replicate this victory next year! ”
A special thanks goes to CI Dunn and CI Thorns who organised and led the team and to all the staff members who volunteered their time to help run the event.
