Air Cadet Amy Burton has been recently awarded with a silver communications badge following the successful completion of studies covering basic communications, advanced radio and radar, technical skills and qualification as both a VHF/UHF operator and HF listener.
Sergeant Burton, 17, lives in Doncaster and is a member of 1053 (Finningley) Detached Flight, based at the former RAF station. She joined the ATC in October 2012 and has been working toward her communications award since February 2013 under the careful instruction of Civilian Instructor Ken Bailey of nearby parent Squadron, 1053 (Armthorpe) Squadron.
Amy said "I'm so proud to be presented with the Silver Communications Badge. I've worked so hard and it really feels worth it."
Ken, the Instructor, added "Sgt Burton has been working hard over the last couple of years. It's great to see the hard work come to fruition. She now intends to go for the Gold award as a Radio Operator."
Officer Commanding at 1053 Detached Flight, Flight Lieutenant John Dale said "I am over the Moon that Sgt Burton has been awarded her new style Silver Communications badge. This reflects the consistent hard work she has put in over a long period of time. Well done Amy!"
