Bawtry has hit the hat-trick this month, with FS Emma Thompson being appointed Lord-Lieutenant Cadet for South Yorkshire, the squadron’s third Lord-Lieutenant Cadet in three years.

The appointment of Lord-Lieutenant Cadet is the highest honour that can be achieved in the cadet forces. Each year, a cadet from each of the cadet services is appointed in recognition of their commitment to their organisation and for the positive impact that they’ve made both within their organisation and in the local community. They hold this appointment for a year and accompany the Lord Lieutenant to a variety of events, including Royal Visits.

Shaun Allen was appointed in October 2013, following many achievements including achieving the rank of Flight Sergeant, completing the Air Cadet syllabus, achieving both his bronze and silver Duke of Edinburgh awards and competing in a variety of sports including football, badminton, swimming and athletics. His most notable achievements prior to his appointment were leading the squadron banner team to first place at Wing Training Day in 2012 and ending his gliding scholarship at Linton on Ouse with a solo flight at the age of 16.

Shaun’s achievements didn’t stop with his appointment and he went on to achieve the rank of Cadet Warrant Officer in 2014 and he also visited Hong Kong on the International Air Cadet Exchange in the same year, before aging out in June 2015, ready for a career in the RAF.

Flight Sergeant Amy Heppinstall followed Shaun into the position in 2014. From joining in 2009, Amy has risen through the ranks, attending a number of camps and achieving various qualifications, including first aid and several BTECs, as well as achieving her Bronze and Silver Duke of Edinburgh awards. She has participated in a number of sports throughout her time as a cadet, including both swimming and netball. Following her appointment, she has visited China on the International Air Cadet Exchange and she has fully embraced the role of an SNCO, supporting and assisting the staff.

Flight Sergeant Emma Thompson, who was appointed on Tuesday 13th October 2015, joined the Corps in 2010.
