By Flight Lieutenant Andy Williams RAF VR(T) - 148 (Barnsley) Squadron
On Sunday 13th September all the cadets and staff from 148 (Barnsley) Squadron joined the other Squadron staff and cadets from Sector One (South and West Yorkshire Wing) with support from South and West Yorkshire Wing Warrant Officer Burbridge. The parade further consisted of Barnsley Branch RAFA and RBL, The Barnsley Airborne Association, The Parachute Regiment, Veterans, ACF and Barnsley Air Scouts for the Battle of Britain and Battle for Arnhem commemorative parade through Barnsley Town Centre. Special thanks go to South Yorkshire Lord Lieutenant Coombe, the Mayor and Mayoress of Barnsley, Wing Commander Rogers (Rtd), Squadron Leader Ford, Squadron Leader Williamson for attending the event and taking the salute at the memorial in front of the town hall.
Father Stephen from St Maryís church was inspiring in his service and sermon. All the cadets and staff worked hard on the parade and the service in making sure it ran smoothly. The fact that it looked easy and seamless was a testament to how hard everyone prepared for the event, my thanks go to you all involved.
148 Squadron band led the parade and there were over 200 participants in the event. All the staff and cadets had obviously worked hard on their uniforms and looked smart and we have had many positive comments since.
We thank you all for attending and hope next year to join you all again in remembrance.
