One lucky Stockport cadet was given the once in a lifetime opportunity to take part in the International Air Cadet Exchange (IACE) on a two week trip to the Netherlands.

Cadet Warrant Officer Blake Noden (18) from 162 (Stockport) Squadron had to go through a difficult application process to ensure that he was able to represent the Air Cadet Organization to a high standard. After expressing an interest, Blake put forward an application to explain why he felt he should be chosen. He then had an intense interview to test his knowledge about the Air Cadets and the RAF, but also to see what he knew about the country he would be visiting. Blake was then chosen to be the Greater Manchester Wing representative from 21st July to 5th August 2015.

Over the 15 day trip, Blake was lucky enough to visit the Netherlands Aerospace Centre, where prestigious, high end research regarding aerospace engineering takes place. Other highlights from his trip included a flight in an F16 jet whilst air-to-air refueling when he visited Volkel Airbase, a visit to Gilze-Rijen Heli Operations, an iconic canal boat tour and a weekend stay with a host family.

Blake said “I was absolutely thrilled when I found out I was going! It was a privilege to represent the ATC and meet other cadets from around the world. I would definitely encourage anyone else who is interested to apply, one of the best experiences the organization has to offer.”

Flying Officer Sophie Roberts stated “I am immensely proud of Blake and everything he’s done in his cadet career, he is a brilliant role model to the younger cadets and his participation with IACE sets him apart from the rest. He is hard working and dedicated and I feel this opportunity has been a rewarding experience which he can pass on to the cadets.”

Stockport Air Cadets is thriving! Girls and boys from 12 years of age have the chance to do many activities including visits to RAF stations, flying, adventure training & the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.
