On the 25th of August 2015, I attended a band camp for 6 days staying at the Britannia Royal Naval College Dartmouth for the Dartmouth Regatta. I had been very kindly invited by Devon & Somerset Wing to join in with the bands performances in the town and on the flagship, HMS Monmouth.
We were staying on the ship Hindostan, a decommissioned minesweeper (formally HMS Cromer) moored at the college, and also used this as our practice area. As an invited guest, I had never played with their band before and the initial practices were difficult, but once I had found my feet, it was very enjoyable to work with them! On the 27th, myself and four other cadets got a flight in a Royal Navy Sea King, and had 45 minutes flying around Dartmouth and the surrounding area, which was a fantastic experience!
On the 29th, the band performed on the HMS Monmouth which was a fantastic performance and was a great privilege to be part of it! I thoroughly enjoyed my time with Devon & Somerset Wing band and I would like to thank the staff and cadets for allowing me to attend such a wonderful camp and wish them all the best for future performances! Well done to all those involved and I look forward to working with you again!
