Kirsty Gledhill has been promoted to the Air Cadet Organisation’s highest cadet rank of Cadet Warrant Officer.
Kirsty, who is 18 and from Marsh, has been with 59 Squadron since joining as a recruit in 2010, her first promotion coming in 2012 as Cadet Corporal. She has represented, captained and coached South and West Yorkshire Wing at hockey as well as representing North Region, and achieved qualifications in public services, aviation studies, first aid, health and safety and undertaken the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award.
The rank of Cadet Warrant Officer is presented to cadets after attending a Wing Board for interview at the Headquarters in Castleford. Kirsty had to demonstrate a high level of knowledge about the Air Cadet Organisation and justify the award of the rank to the board including Wing Commander Brian Daniel (OC South and West Yorkshire Wing), Squadron Leader Barry French (Chief of Staff) and Wing Warrant Officer Adrian Burbridge.
“I have had a fantastic first five years within the Air Cadets,” said Kirsty. “I joined at the age of 13 and since then I have attended camps on RAF bases to get a taste of life in the forces, achieved qualifications that have helped me get jobs and into university and I am still pushing myself to try new activities such as shooting and flying all the time.
“I would recommend joining to anyone that wants to try something new, have fun and gain valuable life skills along the way.”
