I recently went on a JNCO course at South & West Yorkshire Wing HQ. On the course we did lots of leadership exercises and other tasks, all of which will be helpful towards my role on Squadron as a JNCO.
On the Friday night when I arrived we had a briefing straight away and then shortly after an exercise so that we could get to know each other better in our groups. It was great to get to know Cadets from other Squadrons in the Wing.
On the Saturday we started with an hour of drill practice. During this hour we were taught the different stages of teaching drill from demonstrating the manoeuvre to breaking the manoeuvre down into parts. Next we had a presentation on the different aspects of leadership and how each exercise should be carried out from a leadership perspective. After this we then put on our MTPs and did a practise of our leadership exercise task which we would be assessed on the Sunday. During this task we were assessed as we would in the real task so we were given points to improve on for when we did it for real. When this was completed we were walked through a power point on dress regulations and drill standards.
On the Sunday we did our drill teaching assessment in the drill hall where we were assessed on our drill teaching standards. Next we went into our leadership assessment where we were able to put the advise from the Staff into practice. Afterwards we had a debrief and then we did a final parade where we each received a certificate of our completion of the course.
All in all I thought that this was a good weekend and that the tips and advice given was very helpful and I would recommend the course to anyone.
