Stockport Air Cadets are on cloud nine having recently returned from the annual Greater Manchester Wing Field Training Day as the overall winners.
The cadets from 162 (Stockport) Squadron, Air Training Corps, along with nearly 700 cadets, from the other 36 Squadrons in the Greater Manchester Wing, Met up at Hopwood Hall College for the annual competitions in events such as, drill, public relations, volleyball and aircraft recognition.
The Wing Field Training Day is the largest annual event for a Wing, and is a great opportunity to meet up with old friends from camps and other activities. The day is all about competitions to find out who is the best Squadron in the Wing at particular activities. These activities are the drill competition, the banner drill competition, public relations, aircraft recognition, first aid, volleyball and aircraft modelling. The day also offers opportunities to try out rock climbing and air rifle shooting amongst other things.
The cadets from 162 (Stockport) Squadron had one aim, to win the day overall! The teams had practiced for many weeks for the competitions, practicing drill until it was perfect, selecting the best first aiders and painstakingly building the aircraft models.
Squadron Boss, Flight Lieutenant Lee Moore said “I’m really proud of the cadets, all their hard work has paid off, this win is particularly special as the Squadron has never won the overall trophy before. The win wouldn’t have been possible without excellent leadership from our committed adult volunteer team.”
Military Competitions are only one of many activities offered at Stockport Air Cadets. Girls and boys from 13 years of age have the chance to do many activities including Flying, visits to RAF Stations, Adventure Training & Music.
The squadron meets every Monday and Thursday night from 7pm at their Headquarters, Lockwood Fold, Buxton Road, Stockport, SK2 6LS. If you think you have what it takes to be a member of the unit visit www.162atc.co.uk, Telephone (0161) 4804390 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
