Longbenton Air Cadet Squadron has received a High Sheriff of Tyne and Wear Award in recognition of the valuable services it provides to the community for the third year running.

Collecting the award on behalf of the Squadron were Connor Price, 18, of Benton and Rachel Findlay, 15, of Holystone. The High Sheriff, Mrs Judith Thompson, presented the award at a special ceremony held at Sunderland University.

Rachel said, “It was an enjoyable evening and it was great to have our achievements recognised again. We do a lot of fun activities and sometimes they’re challenging but it’s a great feeling when you overcome that challenge. We thank the High Sheriff for her Award.”

“There are lots of groups in the region who work with young people and they make such a difference,” added Connor. “It was a pleasure to be amongst them and celebrate the achievement of young people in the region,” he added.

Mrs Thompson said, “The Longbenton Cadets have enjoyed a remarkable few years. They have remained at the top and it is very fitting that their latest achievements have been recognised.”

Longbenton Squadron is currently open to new members in Year 8 and above.
