Four cadets from 1407 (Newton Aycliffe) Squadron had a brilliant day at RAF Topcliffe, visiting 645 VGS for an Air Engagement Day. They got to learn how the Volunteer Glider Squadron is run, how to get out out of the aircraft in an emergency and what goes on during a briefing. The VGS pilots also showed them around the aircraft, explaining the control surfaces and cockpit instrumentation. They also found out a little of the varied history of the base from a talk and airfield tour. The cadets were among the very first crop to have a go on the VGS's new Part Task Trainer; a computerised training tool. The visit finished with a trip over to the Yorkshire Air Ambulance. The day was an excellent consolidation to the Principles of Airmanship lectures and will set the cadets up well for when gliding returns.
