Local Royal Air Force Air Cadets from 145 (Altrincham & Hale) Squadron recently took part in a cross country competition held at Hopwood Hall College, Middleton across steep and rough terrain. The Squadron competed against 37 other units, around 500 cadets from across Greater Manchester.
Amidst the snow and rather boggy conditions 145 Squadron assembled a full team of twelve cadets and its largest ever team of supporters. The cadets took part in four races ranging from one and a half miles to three miles, across four categories: Junior Girls, Senior Girls, under 15 Boys and under 17 Boys with three cadets finishing in the top ten – the best ever results for 145 Squadron! The cadets now wait to see if any are chosen to represent Greater Manchester Wing later in February.
Cadet Sergeant Waters from 145 Squadron said, “I am so proud of the cadets. Despite the freezing cold conditions, we fielded a team that overcame challenging competition and produced amazing results. My congratulations go to all the runners and to the supporters.”
Air Cadets is available to boys and girls across the region, aged from 12 years upwards. Cross Country being one of many sports offered by the Air Cadet Organisation, who also provide opportunities including visits to RAF stations, Adventure Training and the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award scheme.
