The prompt first aid actions of Cadet Corporal Elizabeth Newton have resulted in her being awarded with the Commandant Air Cadets Special Commendation at a recent ceremony at 1127 (Kendal) Squadron’s Headquarters. The Commendation was presented by the Officer Commanding Cumbria and Lancashire Wing, Wing Commander Steve Molloy.
The citation reads that a classmate of Corporal Newton was injured when a glass conical flask he was holding broke resulting in him having glass embedded in his hand. Corporal Newton’s immediate actions and calm approach in providing first aid assistance resulted in the casualty being treated quickly and effectively. On returning to the classroom another of her classmates became unwell due to the incident Corporal Newton quickly coming to her aid as well.
The Commanding Officer of 1127 Kendal Air Cadet Squadron, Flight Lieutenant Simon Walton added; “This kind of everyday incident just goes to show how important it is for everyone to have a good grasp of first aid. All Cadets on the Squadron receive regular practice as part of their Youth First Aid training. The calm way Corporal Newton handled the situation is a credit to her and the Squadron.”
