On Sunday 23rd November, 7 cadets from 733 (Newcastle Airport) Squadron took part in an inter-squadron football tournament. They took on three other squadrons from the wing and emerged as the overall winners of the competition!
Despite the cold afternoon, the enthusiasm from the seven cadets was not deterred, as they undertook their first round robin match with 2510 (West Denton) Squadron. 733 cadets started strong, with the first goal of the day being scored by Cadet Aaron Millinson (aged 15). By the time the final whistle was blown, the score was 8-0 to 733.
The second match out cadets took part in was against 1509 (Blaydon) Squadron. Confidence boosted by the earlier win, 733 squadron gained yet another victory with a final score of 12-0 to 733. Next up was 346 (Tynemouth) Squadron with a final score of 13-1 to 733.
After successfully gaining a spot in the competition final, the team was up against their opponents from earlier on in the day, 2510, West Denton Squadron. After their experience with the team earlier on, 733 knew what to expect and managed to put 12 goals in the net whilst conceding none. In fact, the only goal that our cadets conceded the entire day was the one from their third match! This final result meant that the cadets were of course, named overall champions of the competition.
Cadet Lowrey commented “I found the experience really enjoyable, and I hope to do it again when the sector expands. The other three teams provided tough competition but I am proud to be part of the winning squadron!”
Cadet Simpson commented “I found the competition fun and enjoyable, I particularly enjoyed getting to meet and talk to cadets from other squadrons from different parts of the wing. Each team had a unique goal-scoring celebration which provided much amusement each time a goal was scored.”
Cadets from 733 Squadron are very much looking forward to taking part in similar inter-squadron activities in the new year!
