On November 6th myself and several Cadets from 148 (Barnsley) Squadron were proud to take part in the annual Royal British Legion Festival Of Remembrance held at Horizon Community College.
This year the emphasis was the centenary of the First World War, the service reflected this with poems, reading and music.
The evening started with entertainment from Barnsley Youth Choir as guests arrived at Horizon. Once all the guests had taken their seats a local brass band played music reflecting past conflicts. School children from Horizon read out some information on several fallen servicemen from the Barnsley area which was very moving.
My main role for the evening was to carryout the Drumhead Service with 4 other Cadets. We descended the stairs through the audience each carrying a drum to form the Drumhead Service, it was huge honour and I was very proud to take part.
Once the Drumhead had been formed Cadets were joined on stage by Cadets from Barnsley Sea Cadets and Army Cadets and also children from Horizon Community College for a moving silence to remember all those who have fallen.
