On Sunday 14th September 2014, cadets from 2431 (Keighley) Squadron ATC, attended a parade in Skipton to mark the 74th Anniversary of the Battle of Britain.
In attendance at this parade was members from Keighley Squadron, Wharfdale Squadron and Skipton Squadron. These cadet squadron were joined by veterans and members of the US Air Force, based at RAF Menwith Hill.
We all congregated and formed up at the top of Skipton Main Street and marched down to the town centre and formed up just in front of the town’s cenotaph.
It was an immense pleasure to be on parade with members of the US Air Force as we all reflected on the past and showed our respect to those who lost their lives.
The parade was also attended by a high ranking RAF Officer who took the salute during the march past.
After the service at the cenotaph, we all marched to the church. Here we attended a service to commemorate past and present conflicts throughout the world.
We ended at about 19:30 with food and drink at the Skipton Royal Air Force Association (RAFA) Club.
I felt very proud to represent the squadron at this event and pay my respects who gave their lives in service of their country.
