Three Stockport Air Cadets are on cloud nine having recently completed the Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Programme which is the end of a twelve month programme of activities for the three teenagers.
The three adventurous young men are Cadet Flight Sergeant Blake Noden (17), Cadet Sergeant Christopher Blampied (17) and Cadet Flight Sergeant Lewis Taylor (19) who are all members of Heaviley based 162 (Stockport) Squadron.
During the challenging twelve month Gold DofE programme of activities designed to test their teamwork, perseverance and confidence the cadets all had to complete five sections, Volunteering, Physical, Skills , A week long Residential and a Four day (Three night) Expedition in Wild Country.
Lewis commented, “Gaining my Gold DofE has given me confidence in myself to be a good leader and shown me the importance of being an effective team member. I’ve experienced some amazing things completing my Gold DofE, with the best being a week-long residential visit to Germany which included a trip to the Mohne Dam – a target of the famous Dambusters raids”
Flight Lieutenant Lee Moore, 162 (Stockport) Squadron’s Commanding Officer said: “These three cadets have been exceptionally keen and completed all three levels – Bronze, Silver and now Gold. They are now helping the other cadets from the squadron gain their awards and are a credit to the squadron.”
The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is only one of many activities offered at Stockport Air Cadets. Girls and boys from 13 years of age have the chance to do many activities including Flying, visits to RAF Stations, Adventure Training & Music.
The squadron meets every Monday and Thursday night from 7pm at their Headquarters, Lockwood Fold, Buxton Road, Stockport, SK2 6LS. If you think you have what it takes to be a member of the unit visit www.162atc.co.uk, Telephone (0161) 4804390 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
