Air Cadets from 2344(Longbenton) Squadron have delivered a Training and Development Programme to new Year 7 Students at George Stephenson High School in Killingworth.
The group cadets, aged 13 to 18 led the students through a series of activities including leadership tasks, campcraft skills, citizenship, art and sports, with the 11-year olds even learning to march!
Cadet Thomas Bell, 15 of Killingworth, who is now in Year 11 at George Stephenson, said, “It was really good fun working with the younger children. We found it challenging at times as we had to quickly change the way we communicated so that the Year 7’s could understand and gain as much as possible from the week.”
Squadron boss, Flight Lieutenant Gary Richardson said; “It was great to work with younger members of the community and see how much they grew in confidence in just a week was marvellous. They Year 7’s did extremely well and showed a great attitude toward learning, as did our cadets who gained planning, communication and management skills by delivering the sessions.”
The air cadets planned and delivered the sessions last week during the school holidays.
Longbenton Squadron is currently open to new members from the age 12 and in Year 8. Please visit www.2344.org.uk for further information.
