Myself and Cadet Jack Hartshorne were joined by Cadets from 2460 (Pontefract) 2388 (Castleford) Squadrons for a Red Badge first aid course at 148 (Barnsley) HQ.
The course lasted for two days, we all successfully passed and learned many new skills.
On the first day we focused on what to do if someone was unconscious, which included the primary and secondary survey , recovery position and CPR. In the afternoon we learned about the positions to put causalities in who are suffering from either a heart attack, shock, choking and fainting.
On the morning of the second day we studied burns and scolds, bites, stings, wounds, bleeds and bandages. We were taught how to treat someone with a burn, scold, bite or a sting and also how to apply bandages to different wounds.
We also had some time to go over everything that we had learnt over the two days ready for our assessment on Sunday afternoon. The assessments went very well and we all passed the course and we can wear our badges with pride!
The weekend was a lot of fun and a great experience and I am glad that I took part. We now have the skills to help someone if they need first aid!
