On Saturday 14th June 2014 Air Cadets from 2431 (Keighley) Squadron assisted shoppers in Asda by packing their bags. Throughout the day, up to twenty cadets could be seen manning the checkouts and collecting funds for SSAFA (Soldiers, Sailors and Airmens Families Association).
SSAFA are a charitable organisation who provide support and assistance to servicemen and women, veterans, and the families of both, every single day of the year. On Wednesday the 6th of August, Diana Carrol from SSAFA West Yorkshire attended the squadron to present the cadets with a certificate of appreciation and a print of a Lancaster Bomber.
Diana commented “The cadets raised a total of £847.00 for SSAFA which is a record achievement for one days work. Numerous customers commented on how smart and polite the cadets were and they are a credit to the squadron and the Royal Air Force.”
Flight Lieutenant Paul Crabtree, Officer Commanding 2431 (Keighley) Squadron commented “It’s fantastic for the staff and cadets to see where the money raised actually goes and it’s also great to receive a token of appreciation for the hard work the cadets have gone to. We will now concentrate on raising £1,000 next year!”
