Eccles Air Cadets have recently raised over £940 recently for Soldiers, Sailors, Air Force Association (SSAFA) by spending the day packing bags for customers at Sainsbury’s in Salford.
During the course of the day the group were lucky enough to pack the bags of two famous faces, Jennie McAlpine and Sue Nicholls, better known as Fizz and Audrey from Coronation Street. The two TV stars took a few minutes out from their busy filming schedule to chat to the cadets and pose for photographs.
SSAFA is a nationwide charity supporting past, present and future members of the UK Armed Forces all over the world. It aims to relieve the need, suffering and distress of former and serving members of the British Armed Forces and their families or dependants.
Greater Manchester Air Cadets Charities Officer, Flight Sergeant Vikki Moore said, “We were very pleased with the amount we raised for such a worthwhile Service Charity. The cadets received a large number of compliments on their smart turn out from customers and staff.”
Charity Fund Raising is just one of hundreds of activities offered by the Air Cadets. Girls and boys from 12 years of age have the chance to do many activities including visits to RAF Stations, Adventure Training & the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.
The Air Cadets is recruiting, if you are interested in joining then visit the Greater Manchester Wing website at www.gmaircadets.org to find your local Squadron. We also welcome applications for adult volunteers.
