On the 15th June 148 (Barnsley) Squadron attended the North Region training and competitions day at RAF Linton-on-Ouse. We won at the South and West Yorkshire Wing full band and Percussion competitions so were competing at the next level.
Following a very busy day of practicing and performing both the band and percussion sections came a very close 2nd place, an incredible feat after 9 months of work. To put this in perspective, 9 months of hard work and 2nd place in the whole North of England, fantastic. Both performances were one of the best efforts I have seen in each arena, so you should all be very proud of your work and achievements on the day. It is exciting to think where you will be in a years time in development, confidence and skill levels.
We also had the honour of carrying weapons as an armed escort on the final parade which saw Air Commodore McCafferty take the salute. A real honour for 148 (Barnsley) Squadron to be able to do this in front of the Commandant Air Cadets. Really overwhelmed as to how much information and training you all took on board to be able to do this. The drill was superb, sharp and smart and you lived up to our Squadron motto of being judged by your actions, very well done. A big thank you goes to our Wing Warrant Officer for his regular training visits and to all the Squadron staff and OC 23 Sqn who made the training and logistics possible so Barnsley air cadets could have this opportunity.
Now you have the weapons drill bug, where will that lead I wonder…..
Overall a fantastic day and huge efforts all round, you should be very proud of yourselves, as I am of you.
