On Saturday 14th June 2014, cadets from 2431 (Keighley) Squadron ATC went back packing in ASDA to raise money for SSAFA.
The day started at 09:00 as all the cadets met at the front entrance to the Keighley branch of the Leeds based supermarket chain ASDA. After signing in with the stores administrators and managers, we were issued with SSAFA buckets, stickers, bookmarks, leaflets and wrist bands by the SSAFA Adult volunteers.
Each cadet was then assigned a checkout within the store. Within 2 minutes of us setting up, we were off!
Cadets assisted checkout operators in packing customers shopping bags and giving out SSAFA merchandise to those who made a donation to the worthwhile cause. We were swapped around different locations throughout the day. One minute you were on a checkout, the next you were on the front door and then after that you were at the self service checkouts.
Throughout the day cadets were given breaks. Some cadets stayed in ASDA while the others went off for their lunch break and then the groups swapped over on their return.
The day finished at 14:00 (2pm) with a very large amount of money raised, however, how much money was raised is still unknown.
Numerous members of the public commented on the helpful, smart and professional attitude and appearance of the cadets. The SSAFA organisers were also very impressed with the number of cadets that turned out to help raise money for past and present members of the UK Armed Forces.
Cadets at 2431 (Keighley) Squadron ATC, are honoured to help out in the community in what ever way they can. This is another fine example of what this squadron is capable of within the community.
