The Officer Commanding of 739 Scarborough Squadron recently decided to introduce a boarding system for potential new Junior Cadet Non-Commissioned Officers to ensure they had a sound basis of knowledge of both the Royal Air Force and the Air Training Corps prior to any potential promotion.
Candidates were invited to apply earlier in the year and three were short-listed for interview.
The interview covered RAF & ATC History, Organisation and general knowledge with some pretend scenarios to see how they could think on their feet in a demanding situation.
Two cadets were then promoted based on their performance on the night, their applications and from general observations carried out of their aptitude, attitude, drill and dress standards and their overall commitment and attendance at both the unit level and formal events.
The two new Corporals are Gemma Wilson and Matthew Smith (pictured below on being presented with their “shiny” new chevrons!)
In addition for his long term commitment Cadet Sergeant Dominic Macaleese was also promoted to Cadet Flight Sergeant. Dominic is a long serving cadet whom is extremely dedicated and has produced wonderful results for the promotion of the squadron both in photograph and video format (see recruitment videos on the website) as well as performing his duties with exceptional ability, going to the Himalayas with the Yorkshire Cadet Trust and regularly performing very well in all sports. He will be leaving us whoever shortly after the summer as he has been accepted for service in the RAF as a Commissioned Officer!

Finally we presented Cdt Sgt Chloe Springall with her BTEC Diploma in Music, in which she earned a Distinction. Chloe regularly performs with the various bands within the Wing, Region and even at the very top at Corps level. She should be extremely proud of her achievement, one which is a first for the Squadron.
