 Air Cadets Remember the Fallen Overseas.

On Friday 02nd September 2016, 18 cadets and 6 staff from 2505 (Bishop Auckland) Squadron Royal Air Force Air Cadets were privileged to visit the WW2 Mohne Dam in Germany, famous for the ‘Dambusters’ raid led by Wing Commander Guy Gibson, VC. During the tour they learnt much of the history and remembered those from all sides who died during the attack.

On Thursday 3rd December, 2505 (Bishop Auckland) Squadron of the Royal Air Force Air Cadets held their annual presentation evening with parents and guests in the Reserve Forces Centre, Bishop Auckland. During the evening nine outstanding cadets were recognised with squadron awards by the Mayor, Cllr Lee Brownson.

2505 Squadron Has a Fun-Packed Weekend - From Heights to Flights

On Saturday the 6th June, a large team of cadets and staff from 2505 (Bishop Auckland) Squadron of the Royal Air Force Air Cadets, climbed to the summit of Pen-Y-Gent in the Yorkshire Dales. On the summit at the height of 694 metres, the team raised the squadron ensign to mark 71 years to the day since the famous D-Day, the allied invasion of Northern Europe. On Sunday the 7th June, the team went on to visit the Yorkshire Air Museum and Allied Air Forces Memorial near York. The highlight of which was the ground running of both an ex-RAF Dakota, many of which were used during the World War Two, and a post-war Nimrod maritime reconnaissance aircraft.

Ex-Bishop Auckland Air Cadet Visits Squadron and Is Awarded a BTEC

On the evening of Monday 10th November, Senior Aircraftsman Daniel Barron returned to 2505 Squadron to talk to the cadets about his experiences as a member of the Royal Air Force. An ex-cadet of 2505 (Bishop Auckland) squadron, Daniel had achieved the rank of cadet Flight Sergeant and taken part in numerous activities including shooting, flying, swimming and camps, before leaving to successfully complete his basic, trade and operational training as an RAF Logistics Operator. Since qualifying, Daniel has also completed a tour in Afghanistan and supported humanitarian aid in the Philippines.

Bishop Auckland Air Cadets Complete

On Saturday 04th October seven cadets from 2505 (Bishop Auckland) Squadron Royal Air Force Air Cadets scaled to the summit of the 1085 metre high Mount Snowdon in the Snowdonia National Park, the highest peak in both England and Wales. The aim was to reach the summit to mark 50 years since the squadron was first formed.

Three Royal Air Force Air Cadets from 2505 (Bishop Auckland) Squadron have achieved their BTEC Level 2 in Public Services passing with distinction. The BTEC is awarded through the Cadet Vocational Qualifications Organisation. For almost two years the cadets have studied tirelessly passing examinations in a range of subjects including navigation, volunteering and public services in order to achieve the awards, which were presented at the Reserve Forces Centre in Bishop Auckland on Thursday 26th June.

On Saturday 17th May, cadets and staff from 2505 (Bishop Auckland) Squadron Royal Air Force Air Cadets, practicing navigation for their Duke of Edinburgh’s Award expedition, climbed to the 702 metre summit of Buckden Pike in the Yorkshire Dales.
