We were extremely pleased to welcome a number of members of the Air Training Corps (Durham/Northumberland Wing) to our annual camp again this year. Led by Flt Lt Nigel Yarrow all cadets were fully integrated into the ACF star groups and undertook the same training as their Army Cadetcolleagues. This included the ATC NCOs instructing all cadets within their cadre group.

Blank Firing Is Approved

At the Durham/Northumberland Wing 75th Anniversary parade the Regional Commandant, Group Captain Leeming, was approached by Cadet Sgt Forsyth and asked if cadets would be allowed to use blank firing weapons at the forthcoming Northumbria Army Cadet Force Camp at Otterburn in North Northumberland.

Wallsend Squadron Even Safer

1151 (Wallsend) Squadron Air Training Corps is now a safer place to be than it has been for two years now.  Ten Cadets spent two weekends working alongside Sgt Liam Reilly, of the St John's Ambulance Brigade, in order to obtain their Youth First Aid qualification, to add to their Heart Start Certificate.

Rewarded at Long Last

Mr Edmund Hall joined 1151 (Wallsend) Squadron in 1947 as a cadet. He returned to the unit in 1968 as a member of the Civilian Committee. Three years later he moved on to 131 (City of Newcastle) Squadron as a member of the Committee there. During his time with 131 he served the young people of the area as the Civilian Committee Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer standing in for other members whenever needed. In 2014 Mr Hall returned to 1151 a took up a position as a committee member helping to maintain the efficient and effective running of the unit.

Hearty Success

Cadets from 1151(Wallsend) Sqn have just completed their “British Heart Foundation” Heart Start Qualification.  Having undertaken training in treating an unconscious casualty who may or not be breathing, stopping minor and serious bleeding and how to deliver mouth to mouth resuscitation the cadets and staff tested to prove their skills.

Flight Lieutenant Nigel Yarrow, Commanding Officer of 1151 (Wallsend) Squadron, Air Cadets, has recently recieved his long service award for 50 years continuous service in the Air Training Corps.

Emotional Roller Coaster

On 30 May cadets from Alnwick, Ashington, Wallsend, Houghton  and Blackhall squadrons including Cameron Douglass age 14 from Wallsend, a pupil at Burnside School and Cadet Anthony Brooks age 15 a pupil at Benfield School along with Flt Lt Nigel Yarrow the Officer Commanding 1151 ( Wallsend) Squadron left Durham/Northumberland Wing to meet with cadets from Goole (East Yorkshire) and Woolton (Liverpool) on an emotional rollercoaster of a trip to Normandy.

A Qualified Success

Two cadets from 1151 (Wallsend) Squadron Air Training Corps have gained their BTEC Level 2 in Public Services with distinction from the Cadet Vocational Qualification Organisation.  The BTEC Level 2 Distinction Grade is equivalent to 4 GCSE at A grade.

Continued Comittment to Youth

On Thursday the Civilian Committee of 1151 (Wallsend) squadron Air Training Corps volunteered once again to continue their unpaid service to the cadets.
