Young Firefighters Course

This year, 8 cadets from Kendal squadron attended a 10 weekend course in which they learnt the basic roles and techniques of the Fire and Rescue Service. This included using the ladders, hoses and breathing apparatus, as well as learning to cut a car open, rescue large animals from ditches and making artificial reservoirs of water for the hoses. At the start of the course we were given a uniform, boots, helmet and gloves to look after. A few of us had to face our fear of heights when it came to climbing the ladders, but with the encouragement of the others, we all made it to the top of the ladder.
