Air Cadets Travel the World (well the School Field)Every month of every year cadets from 218 (Rotherham) Squadron take part in many fantastic activities. Over the Easter break they made good use of the school field and equipment to do some leadership and team building.
Wing Training Day On Sunday 12th May, 2431 (Keighley) Squadron ATC took 19 of our Cadets to RAF Linton-on-Ouse, to compete against the other 27 Squadrons from around Central and East Yorkshire.
Wathgill Camp 2013Over the weekend of 17th-19th May 2013, 2431 (Keighley) Squadron ATC were fortunate to be able to take 7 Cadets to DTE Wathgill, to take part in a JNCO Course, a First Aid Course and Fieldcraft Basic Skills.
Inter-Squadron Athletics Competition 2013Despite a wet end to the day, fun was had by all at the athletics competition. All the cadets performed well, with some note-worthy high jumping from Cdt Appleton and a stupendously committed 4th place finish from Cdt Armstrong in the 800m.
80 (Bolton) Squadron Receives Wing Media TrophyLast Friday, 17 May 2013, Flt Lt Rimmer, Greater Manchester Wing's Media Officer came to 80 (Bolton) Squadron to present the now engraved trophy, following on from the Wing Training Day in April 2013.
Promotion Strikes AgainReaching the top isn't easy, but last week another Cadet Warrant Officer was added to 184 (Manchester South) Squadron. Cadet Flight Sergeant McCrudden was promoted to the highest rank attainable for a cadet in the Air Training Corps; Cadet Warrant Officer.

Castleford Air Cadets Remember RAF VeteransLast weekend Air Cadets from Castleford took part in a remembrance parade at Selby Abbey. Cadets from the unit formed a guard of honour lining the entrance to the Abbey on behalf of 578 Squadron Burn Association who meet on an annual basis for a service of remembrance to all those who flew as part of 578 Squadron from the nearby RAF Burn during World War Two. After the service the Cadets formed part of a wreath laying parade at the nearby cemetery where members of the Squadron who died during active service are buried.

317 Clinch Victory in the Wing Drill Competition317 clinched victory in the Greater Manchester Wing Drill competition. Out of 37 squadrons, 317 Failsworth Squadron was deemed to be the best. It came after hours and hours of training at the Squadron, the dedication from Staff and Cadets was fantastic, and for months, they have been hard at work perfecting movements from the new AP818.
Wing Training Day Success for WharfedaleOn Sunday 12th May, a team of cadets and staff from 1224 (Wharfedale) Squadron made the journey to RAF Linton-on-Ouse to take part in Central & East Yorkshire Wing's Annual Wing Training Day.

Shipley and Baildon Cadets Put Their Best Foot ForwardThis time last year Shipley and Baildon Air Cadet Squadron were struggling to raise a drill team for the annual Wing Drill Competition at RAF Church Fenton. Following a large increase in the number of new recruits over the past few months the squadron not only entered the competition this year but put in a creditable performance.
Shipley and Baildon Cadets Learn First AidYounger members of Shipley and Baildon Air Cadet Squadron are busy studying for a first aid qualification. The 13 to 16 year old cadets are undertaking the St John Ambulance Young First Aider Award. The course provides a basic introduction to first aid. It gives the cadets grounding in managing an incident and the most commonly needed first aid skills.
A group of air cadets from 739 Scarborough Air Cadet Squadron were on hand to support nearly 200 walkers as they made their way around the 22 mile walk in aid of a range of local charities. The team helped marshal the Ravenscar checkpoint where they provided the walkers with refreshments, support and guidance. It was also a perfect opportunity for the squadron to make use of their new radio sets paid for by squadron funds and public donations.
Wing Training Day results have now been published and the 1104 Squadron came 24th overall. There were some excellant results in the individual competitions.
The 861 (Wideopen) Squadron drill team has marched to success in the Durham/Northumberland Wing annual drill competition beating 34 other Squadrons!
Congratulations to the 361 (Gateshead) Squadron Banner Drill Squad, led by Cadet Warrant Officer Beth Ainsley, which was victorious at the Durham/Northumberland Wing Competitions Day held in South Shields on Saturday, 11th May.
Last weekend I attended the regional football tournament at Royal Air Force Cranwell College. I was lucky enough to manage to grab my self a spot on the 16 chosen to go and represent North Region Junior football team. It was a great weekend as we also experienced a night on a fully operational base.
My first night back at cadets tonight (at last!) coincided with the celebrations for the anniversary of the dambusters raids, seventy years ago today. So we all watched the televised flypasts and service at RAF Scampton, which included the Battle of Britain memorial flight, and also Tornado aircraft which are used by 617 squadron today.
The Cadets from 1264 (Windermere) Sqn Air Training Corps last night marked the 70th Anniversary of the Dambuster Raids at the Windermere War Memorial. The short service was conducted by our Sqn Padre, Cadet Fralick read a short poem before the Cadets laid poppies in remembrance of the aircrew of 617 Sqn.
