Two long serving staff members of the Squadron have been honoured by Dr Ingrid Roscoe, the Lord-Lieutenant of West Yorkshire, at a private ceremony held at Ceres Division Royal Naval Reserve in Carlton Barracks, Squadron Leader J Hitchen RAFVR(T) and Warrant Officer (ATC) D Wood were awarded the Lord-Lieutenant’s Certificate – an achievement recognised as one of the highest honours in the forces, ranking alongside the MBE - in recognition of their service with the Squadron and the Corps.

The fifth Qualified Aerospace Instructors Course (QAIC 5) graduated at RAF Linton-on-Ouse recently and saw another 37 students from across all six regions of the Air Cadets gain their certificates and patches. With cadets from all across the UK attending, six months of hard work came to an end with a series of syndicate presentations and a glittering graduation dinner held in the officers’ mess.

Recently, Gliding instructor Jordan Cameron passed Officer and Aircrew Selection at RAF Cranwell and was commissioned into the RAFVR(T). More recently on the 19th February, he attended RAF Cranwell once more for his Officer Initial Course where he also received his Commissioning Scroll from Chief Of Staff, Group Captain Lawlor.

Throughout 2012, committed Air Cadets from 103 (Doncaster) Squadron have fully supported the Doncaster Branch of the Royal Air Force Association (RAFA) with their annual Wings Appeal Competition. The competition is open to all ATC Squadrons within the Doncaster area and is presented for the most funds collected annually for this creditable charity. Doncaster cadets did remarkably well throughout 2012 and succeeded in collecting the most funds to clinch the prestigious trophy.

Six Air Cadets from Shipley and Baildon Air Cadets have become the first group in the squadron to achieve a nationally recognised Entry Level Qualification in Workplace Hazard Awareness. The Award Course is run by the Air Cadet Organisation and validated by the British Safety Council.

A recent Communications session at Shipley and Baildon Air Cadet Squadron served a double purpose: it enabled established cadets to revise and improve their radio communication skills and introduced the large number of recent recruits to the general service training requirement to study Communication as part of the First Class Award.

On 22nd March, 110 (City of York) Squadron held their Annual Awards Evening. Guest of Honour was the Station Commander at RAF Linton on Ouse, Group Captain David Cooper. Also present was Wing Commander Steve Wiggins, Wing Commander Ray Kidd and Sector Commander Squadron Leader Brian Mennell together with representatives from the Royal Air Forces Association, Air Gunners Association and the Aircrew Association. The venue was packed with parents, friends and supporters as well as the cadets.
