Regional Activity Centres

The Air Cadet Organisation excels in many areas, however it struggles to offer sufficient activities to some cadets through a lack of resources be it staff, facilities or support. To mitigate this, the organization intends to establish cadet Regional Activity Centres (RACs) across the country, initially two per region to introduce and improve opportunities for cadets to experience the range of cadet activity across the Corps.

North Region Activity Centre (East)

RAF Linton-on-Ouse in Yorkshire is the home of the first RAC. This has been combined with North Region’s initiative of aerospace centre, which is also based at RAF Linton-on-Ouse.  This has allowed the centre to not only deliver the core cadet activities of air experience flying and gliding but has also allowed this to be extended to offer aerospace activities (blue) and field craft activities (green).  Cadets will have the opportunity to take part in other activities such as sport/adventure training, First Aid, shooting, mountain biking, rock climbing etc, based on a weekend of programme “Plug & Play” activities. Cadets will have the opportunity to experience a range of activities in one weekend, with minimum time wasted on the ground.  Further, the centre can be used for staff training.

North Region Activity Centre (West)

Altcar Training Camp in Lancashire is the home of the second full Regional Activity Centre in North Region. The centre is also able to deliver the core aerospace activities (blue) but being located on an Training Camp, it is able to offer more field craft activities (green).

A smaller Activity centre has also been set up at 184 Sqn in Manchester, however this is not a residential centre, but does offer a number of activities for cadets to participate in.
